About This Machine

The Indian Chief is a rare piece of pinball history from the Lindstrom Tool and Toy Company's short-lived production run between 1932 and 1934. Reportedly the rarest model of all Lindstrom bagatelle games, it represents a scarce example of pre-electromechanical bagatelle design, well before flippers or electrical scoring existed in the industry.

As a pure mechanical (PM) bagatelle game, Indian Chief's gameplay relies entirely on gravity and mechanical interaction: the player launches balls that fall through a field of pins and scoring pockets, with no electrical components or player-controlled flippers, which would not be introduced to pinball until more than a decade later.

Built around a Native American warrior theme, Indian Chief's copyright date of 1934 appears on an instructions label affixed to the back of the machine. With its reputation as the rarest Lindstrom bagatelle model, it offers pinball historians and collectors a valuable glimpse into the earliest, purely mechanical roots of the pinball industry.
