U.S.A. Football
About This Machine
U.S.A. Football is a solid-state electronic redemption game manufactured by Alvin G. and Company in 1992, with a confirmed production run of just 11 units. It is a single-player, flipperless game -- classified as a pinball machine because it shares key features with pin games of the 1930s: a plunger, a pinball, playfield holes, no flippers, and a ticket dispenser for redemption play.
Because it is flipperless, gameplay revolves around plunging the ball and directing it into scoring holes on the football-themed playfield rather than aiming shots with flippers; successful play earns tickets that can be redeemed for prizes. The game's music and sound were created by Matt Scott, with software by Rehman Merchant.
This 1-player flipperless U.S.A. Football should not be confused with a separate 2-player flipper-based U.S.A. Football, also released by Alvin G. in 1992, which shared the same distinctive head-to-head cabinet style but featured a very different playfield layout. With only 11 confirmed units produced, the flipperless U.S.A. Football is a rare piece even by redemption-game standards.
