Wild Texas
About This Machine
Wild Texas is a solid-state electronic pinball machine whose manufacturer is not definitively known, though evidence points to Gottlieb: the coils under the playfield are Gottlieb-coded, the flipper assemblies are Gottlieb parts, and the name "Tri Zone" appears on the transformer. Notably, Wild Texas is a conversion of Williams' 1983 "Firepower II," refitted with a Wild West theme rather than being an original design.
As a conversion, it retains a similar hardware layout to its source machine while presenting new Western-themed artwork and playfield elements. It features two flippers, four pop bumpers, two slingshots, ten standup targets, a spinning target, a kick-out hole, a ramp, and a ball diverter wireform in the upper right of the playfield, along with a 2-ball multiball mode -- elements carried over or adapted from the Firepower II hardware.
Because no manufacturer name or production dates appear anywhere on the cabinet, Wild Texas remains something of a mystery machine, known to collectors primarily through its distinctive Western re-theme of a well-known early-1980s Williams design.
