About This Machine

The Hellacopters is a one-of-a-kind electro-mechanical pinball machine: a re-themed conversion of Gottlieb's 1973 'King Pin,' with only a single unit known to exist. Its striking artwork was created by Donny Gillies (known as 'Dirty Donny'), and the music-themed re-skin appears to reference the Swedish garage rock band The Hellacopters, formed in 1994.

As a conversion, Hellacopters retains the underlying single-player, 5-balls-per-play electro-mechanical hardware of King Pin, with Gillies' custom art wrapped around the existing cabinet and playfield rather than a ground-up new design.

Because it exists as a single custom-built unit rather than a factory production run, Hellacopters is less a mass-market machine than a piece of pinball folk art - a striking example of the custom re-theming scene, valued by collectors for its rarity and distinctive artwork rather than for introducing new gameplay mechanics.
