Fast Draw
About This Machine
Fast Draw, manufactured by Europlay of Italy, is a rare solid-state electronic (SS) pinball machine and a conversion of Gottlieb's 1983 'Amazon Hunt', running on a Gottlieb System 80A MPU. Its exact production year is not documented, but as a conversion of a 1983 title, it likely dates to the mid-1980s.
The backglass artwork is credited to artist Michele "Mike" Martinelli, whose name appears on the playfield to the left of the left flipper. Interestingly, the backglass shows a reverse image of artwork also found on other unknown-manufacturer games titled "Commandos" and "Comando," suggesting shared or recycled backglass designs circulated among European conversion operators. A playfield image also shows the "Europlay" name printed on the lower apron.
As a four-player conversion built on Gottlieb's System 80A hardware, Fast Draw's underlying gameplay would have inherited much of Amazon Hunt's original layout and rules, repackaged under new theming and artwork. Europlay's involvement highlights the practice of European operators reskinning American solid-state machines for their own markets in the 1980s.
