About This Machine

The 24 pinball machine, released by Stern Pinball, Incorporated of Chicago, is a licensed tie-in to the Fox television drama '24,' centered on federal agent Jack Bauer. Designed by industry veteran Steve Ritchie with a concept by Ritchie and Dwight Sullivan, the game runs on Stern's S.A.M. Board System and features artwork by Kevin O'Connor.

The machine boasts a robust feature set: two flippers, three pop bumpers, two slingshots, twelve standup targets, four drop targets, a spinning target, and a kick-out hole. Three signature toys tie directly into the show's mythology: a 'Safe House' toy with miniature army men that 'explodes' when it flips down, a Sniper toy that flips open and waggles as it fires, and a Suitcase toy offering three-ball lock in both open and closed positions. The cabinet is a substantial 55 inches long, 27 inches wide, and 75 1/2 inches high, weighing about 250 pounds.

Sound design by Ken Hale and software by Lyman F. Sheats Jr., Lonnie D. Ropp, and Dwight Sullivan round out the package, with voice actor Fred Young providing custom speech for the Chloe character (Jack's dialogue was pulled directly from the TV show's own audio). As a licensed adaptation of a hit television series, 24 brought the show's tension and gadgetry to the pinball playfield.
