About This Machine

This 1932 Pure Mechanical (PM) pinball machine is an unidentified game, believed based on a photo caption in the Encyclopedia of Pinball Vol. 1 to have been made in the Pacific Northwest. It is a clone of Automatic Industries, Incorporated's 1931 "Whiffle Board," though smaller in size — 14 by 28 inches, compared to the standard Whiffle playfield of 16 by 36 inches. It could also be used as a counter model when removed from its legs.

As a Pure Mechanical machine from pinball's earliest era, it predates electromechanical pinball design, relying entirely on mechanical components rather than any electrical scoring or lift mechanisms. Little else is documented about this machine, including its actual manufacturer and specific gameplay details.

Its age and rarity make it a significant curiosity for pinball historians. As an unattributed clone of an early Whiffle-style game, it illustrates how quickly imitators emerged around popular early pinball designs during the format's formative years.
