About This Machine

Jiggilo, produced by Ace Novelty Company of Chicago in December 1932, has a tangled history: according to the Encyclopedia of Pinball, Bally sought an injunction against manufacturers copying its 1932 'Goofy (Junior)', including Ace Novelty's own 'Who's Goofy'. Ace apparently sidestepped the injunction by discontinuing 'Who's Goofy' and instead copying Genco's 'Jiggers (Jr)' — making Jiggilo a copy of a copy, once removed from directly infringing on Bally's design. This December 1932 conversion kit may have been Ace's initial stopgap response to the injunction, ahead of full production of Jiggilo the following year.

As a Pure Mechanical (PM) game, Jiggilo predates flippers (introduced in 1947) and electromechanical scoring; players of the era relied on a plunger and gravity-driven mechanisms to route the ball toward scoring targets, keeping their own score by hand.

No photographs or detailed documentation of Jiggilo's design or artwork have survived, but its convoluted origin as part of Ace Novelty's response to Bally's legal pressure makes it a notable case study in the copycat-heavy Chicago pin-game market of the early 1930s.
