Horsefeathers
About This Machine
Horsefeathers, produced by Colonial Specialties Company of Chicago in January 1933, was among the last in a short run of obscure conversion games the company put out in 1932-1933, following 'A Circus,' 'Who,' and 'Jiggilo.' It is classified as a Table Top/Counter Game rather than a standard floor cabinet, meaning it was built as a compact countertop unit.
As a Pure Mechanical (PM) machine, Horsefeathers predates flippers (introduced in 1947) and any electromechanical components; players would have relied on plunger shots and gravity-driven mechanisms typical of early counter-top pin games. Details of its designer, theme, and specific gameplay have not survived.
Despite the scarcity of documentation, Horsefeathers offers a small window into Colonial Specialties' brief output during the early Depression-era pin-game boom, when numerous small Chicago manufacturers churned out similar conversion and novelty titles.
