About This Machine

Electric Road is a rare electro-mechanical pinball machine from Italy, credited on its backglass to a manufacturer known only by the logo "Md." Collector Federico Croci has suggested this may be an early identity of the company that later became Dama S.R.L. — whose 1970 games "New City" and "World Star" carry the same "Md" logo — though this connection has not been confirmed. Its exact year of production is unknown.

Electric Road is actually a conversion kit built for Gottlieb's 1967 Italian games Hit-A-Card and Solitaire, replacing their mechanical drop-down card backglass with lamp illumination behind a Plexiglas backglass. According to Croci, its playfield was reused from RMG's own conversion kit, Race Day. The game carries an auto racing theme fitting its sports-oriented conversion lineage.

Because Electric Road is a conversion kit rather than an original design, much of its gameplay and mechanical character stems from the underlying Gottlieb games it was built upon. Its obscure manufacturer and unresolved connections to other Italian pinball makers make it an intriguing subject for further research.
