About This Machine

Sub Chase is a whitewood prototype designed by John Trudeau for Premier Technology (marketed under the Gottlieb trade name), but it was never placed into production and the playfield no longer exists. Trudeau has described the design as a combination of Minesweeper and Battleship -- a promising layout ultimately undone by rules that became too complex to keep track of.

As a four-player solid-state machine, Sub Chase packed in a dense array of interactive elements: two flippers, four pop bumpers, two slingshots, two 3-bank drop targets, two kicking targets, two standup targets, two rollunder spinners, and a kick-out hole positioned between the pop bumpers.

Because it was never produced, no theme or artwork was finalized for Sub Chase, and it survives today only as a record of one of Trudeau's more ambitious -- if ultimately overcomplicated -- prototype layouts.
