About This Machine

Krull II is a fantasy-themed, solid-state electronic (SS) whitewood prototype designed by John Trudeau for Mylstar Electronics, Incorporated (operating under the Gottlieb trade name, 1983-1984). It was never placed into production, and the playfield was later stripped and no longer exists.

By Trudeau's own account, the game was built to gauge whether management still had any appetite for marketing a game with the Krull theme -- apparently they did not. He described it as playing okay but noted there wasn't much new about the design, reflecting the tight budget constraints of the period. The machine featured two flippers, two pop bumpers, two slingshots, a 4-bank drop target, a solitary drop target, a stand-up target, a roll-under spinner, and a kick-out hole.

As one of several fantasy- and licensed-theme prototypes Trudeau tested during his time at Mylstar, Krull II illustrates how closely tied Gottlieb's late-era design output was to management's shifting appetite for licensing deals, even when the underlying whitewood played reasonably well.
