About This Machine
This untitled solid-state electronic (SS) whitewood prototype was designed by John Trudeau for D. Gottlieb & Company. It was never placed into production, and the playfield was later stripped and no longer exists; Trudeau himself noted it was the only whitewood he built for which he never settled on a name he liked.
The layout split the board sharply in half, which Trudeau felt made for tough ball flow overall, though he considered the bottom area fast and interesting to play. It featured four flippers, three pop bumpers, two 3-bank drop targets, seven stand-up targets, a kick-out hole, and an "Action Ring" feature. Trudeau later reflected that the design would have benefited from a two-ball multiball, releasing a captured ball back into play once a second ball entered from the plunger.
Trudeau was even uncertain, in retrospect, about some of his own game's mechanisms -- debating whether the upper-left area was a hidden kick-out hole or simply a stand-up target, based on the color of a nearby insert. That ambiguity, preserved in his own comments, makes this one of the more genuinely mysterious entries among Gottlieb's unproduced prototypes.
