Surfer
About This Machine
Surfer is a one-player electro-mechanical pinball machine manufactured by Maquinas Recreativas Sociedad Anonima (Maresa) of Madrid, Spain. No copyright date has been found on the known example, but the game is documented as a copy of Gottlieb's 1976 two-player 'Surfer,' which places its likely production in the mid-to-late 1970s.
Gameplay features two flippers, two pop bumpers, two slingshots, a 5-bank of drop targets, a kick-out hole, a spinning target, and five star rollovers, along with an end-of-ball bonus. The machine uses direct-current flippers and bumpers, a plastic-covered playfield, a three-digit match number, a drop-down cabinet, and three-chime sound effects — features consistent with the general style of EM machines Maresa was building as a Spanish copier of American designs.
Little further information survives about Surfer's designer or exact production run, and it remains a relatively obscure entry among the Spanish-market clones of popular Gottlieb titles.
