About This Machine

Sky Fly, produced by Europlay of Italy in 1978, is an Electro-Mechanical, four-player pinball machine with an Outer Space/Fantasy theme. It is essentially a close copy of Gottlieb's 1977 'Jet Spin,' substituting a bank of five drop targets for Jet Spin's roto-target and rearranging the backglass score-reel placement.

Gameplay centers on two flippers, the 5-bank drop targets, a vari-target, and a kickout hole, requiring players to navigate their ball carefully to avoid losing it. This combination of familiar EM mechanics with a fantasy space theme makes Sky Fly a solid example of late-1970s Italian pinball manufacturing, much of which drew heavily on contemporary American designs.

Little is known about the machine's designer or specific development history, and surviving examples (including ones coined in French francs) suggest export to multiple European markets. Sky Fly remains a niche but interesting piece for collectors tracing how American pinball designs were adapted and reproduced abroad in this period.
