Big Bang Bar
About This Machine
Big Bang Bar is a 2007 remake of Capcom's 1996 machine of the same name, produced by Pinball Manufacturing Inc. (PMI), a division of Illinois Pinball Inc., under license using the Capcom name and original circuit boards. Gene Cunningham of Illinois Pinball announced the remake in 2004, initially planning around 100 units before the run grew; despite reported cost overruns, roughly a dozen machines were rushed to European customers in June 2006 ahead of new RoHS hazardous-substance regulations, with the remaining machines completed and shipped in June 2007. A confirmed 191 units were ultimately built, including a later batch made from extra parts and playfields.
The Outer Space-themed game features a moving tube dancer toy (built about 13% smaller than the 1996 original, since the original mold was unavailable) and an alien ball lock. Artwork was done by Paul Mazur and Stan Fukuoka, with dot-matrix animations by Kevin Loza, mechanics by Mike Miller and John Boydston, music by Jeff Powell, and software by Steven King.
Though produced under license using the Capcom name and branding, the original Capcom Co., Ltd. was not directly involved in manufacturing; a newly formed entity handled production instead. Differences from the 1996 original include lower-voltage electroluminescent ramp lighting and the smaller tube dancer mechanism. Each remake includes a numbered plaque, making Big Bang Bar a well-documented and sought-after piece for collectors of licensed reproduction pinball machines.
