About This Machine

Aces Top is an unusual variant of Bally's 1965 electro-mechanical game 'Aces High,' identical in every respect except for a different name on the backglass. Designed by Ted Zale with artwork by Art Stenholm, it carries a poker/riverboat gambling theme typical of Bally's EM output of the mid-1960s.

The known examples of Aces Top were both found in Europe, and their serial numbers indicate they began life as regular 'Aces High' cabinets that were converted with the new backglass. It's unclear whether this was an official regional variant intended for a specific European market or a one-off relabeling, since Bally's own parts catalog for European-market alternate backglasses does not list 'Aces Top.'

Gameplay-wise, it offers the same experience as Aces High: two flippers, four pop bumpers, five mushroom bumpers, two slingshots, and simple bell-and-knocker sound effects, with a replay wheel maxing out at 25. Its rarity and unresolved backstory make Aces Top a curiosity for collectors of Bally's EM-era conversions.
