About This Machine

15*Pool is a 1976 electro-mechanical, single-player, Add-A-Ball billiards-themed pinball machine credited to an unconfirmed manufacturer - though it is actually a rebadged version of Gottlieb's 1976 'Spot Pool,' produced in Italy (an example of Gottlieb Made In Italy). It's reported that Playmec, believed to be the manufacturer, sometimes listed the game's own name in place of its own on the cabinet, appearing here as "Manufactured by Fiveteen Pool." The backglass artist, Michele "Mike" Martinelli, signed his work "Mike 76."

Gameplay centers on a billiards theme, with two flippers, three pop bumpers, two slingshots, three standup targets, and two kick-out holes feeding an end-of-ball bonus. As an Add-A-Ball machine, players earn extra balls rather than working toward a points-based replay, typical of many European and export-market EM games of the era.

Because local operators sometimes modified these games to add extra scoring digits - usually a fake "0," though occasionally a real counter - surviving examples can vary slightly in their scoring displays. 15*Pool remains a minor but interesting footnote in the story of Gottlieb's international licensing during the 1970s.
