About This Machine

The Euromat is a rare and enigmatic electro-mechanical pinball machine from Aisch & Melchers KG, a German manufacturer that operated from 1960 to 1972. Most references date the Euromat to 1960, though one source lists 1963. As a wall-mounted, single-player game, the Euromat offers a unique glimpse into the evolution of pinball design in the early days of the industry.

The Euromat's playfield is sloped towards the player. It has no flippers in the traditional sense; instead, each of the three springs forming the near edge of the playfield has a kicker arm behind it, attached to a coil underneath the playfield, similar to the mechanism later used in Aisch & Melchers' 1964 'Euromat Super 2.' However, no flipper buttons are evident in the surviving picture of this game.

Little else is known about the Euromat's theme, design, or artwork. Its compact, wall-mounted construction and rarity make it a tantalizing challenge for collectors and historians piecing together its history and significance.
