Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man's Chest
About This Machine
Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man is a licensed-theme home pinball machine from Zizzle Arcade Pinball, released in 2006 alongside the company's other Pirates and Marvel-themed home games. As a licensed theme based on the popular movie franchise, it brings a bright, family-friendly experience to players. Zizzle held the master toy license for Pirates of the Caribbean and allowed Stern Pinball to make its own 'Pirates of the Caribbean' machine under that same licensing agreement.
Gameplay is characterized by its use of three pop bumpers, which can be activated simultaneously with a single solenoid, as well as two slingshots, two standup targets, and a spinning target. The LCD scoring display and LED playfield insert lighting add to the visual presentation, and the game includes music, sound effects, and speech. A stationary treasure chest serves as the machine's central toy.
The machine's design and artwork are also noteworthy, with a wood playfield featuring heat transfer laminate artwork and an injection-molded backbox. The cabinet itself measures 34 inches long, 18 inches wide, and 54 inches high, with metal legs providing stability. This machine is the subject of a US design patent (D579,055), filed by John Popadiuk Jr. and others in September 2006 and granted in October 2008. While not as widely documented as some other pinball machines, Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man remains an intriguing piece of pinball history that combines home-market gameplay mechanics with licensed theme appeal.
