Pirates of the Caribbean
About This Machine
Pirates of the Caribbean, released by Stern Pinball in July 2006, was designed by Dennis Nordman with artwork by Kevin O'Connor and rules/software by Dwight Sullivan and Lonnie D. Ropp. Licensed from Disney, it draws on the Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise and was notably the first pinball machine from Stern to be RoHS compliant, using new, lower-voltage score displays that were also brighter than previous generations.
The game centers on a physical Ship toy and a Treasure Chest, and features music and sound design by David Thiel, with voice characterizations by Fred Young. The cabinet and playfield carry substantial hardware — the machine has an actual measured weight of 254 pounds including legs — reflecting the mechanically elaborate ship feature at its core.
Pirates of the Caribbean's artwork and animations (with dot-matrix animation by Mark Galvez) recreate the swashbuckling atmosphere of the films, making it an appealing choice for fans of the franchise and pinball enthusiasts alike. Its combination of an immersive ship mechanism and licensed Disney theming has made it a well-regarded title in Stern's catalog.
