Strike
About This Machine
The Zaccaria Strike is a non-commercial, hand-made home model produced by the Italian manufacturer in the 1970s, with only 20 confirmed units made. According to collector Federico Croci, who obtained production details directly from Natale Zaccaria, the machines were built by hand and not all of them were necessarily sold. The playfield is shared with the commercial electro-mechanical coin-op version of Strike, though the backglass differs, permitting much higher scores and featuring three backglass lights — Mediocre, Good, and Champion — that comment on the player's performance during the game.
Strike's bowling theme is reflected in its scoring and artwork, credited to Lorenzo Rimondini. Unlike many of its EM contemporaries, which relied on chimes or organ-style tones, Strike uses electronic sound effects rather than mechanical chimes, giving it a distinctive audio signature for its era.
As a rare home model with a production run of only 20 units, Strike occupies a unique niche in Zaccaria's history — a hand-built counterpart to the company's commercial EM and later SS versions of the same game, making it a notable find for collectors interested in the company's less common output.
