Atom-Jet
About This Machine
Atom-Jet, made by American Amusement & Mfg. Co., Inc. (AAMCO) of Kansas City, Missouri, is a coin-operated novelty amusement machine that IPDB classifies as "Not A Pinball" rather than a true pinball title, though it shares some electro-mechanical DNA with the format. Its most distinctive feature is a separate remote control box, connected to the main unit by roughly 15 feet of cord, which accepts 5-cent coins; pulling the plunger on this remote box launches the ball into the main unit.
The main unit's playfield contains pockets of varying score values. When the game resets, these pockets swing down to release the balls, resetting the game for the next play. The remote control box itself measures approximately 7 by 10 inches.
Little else is documented about Atom-Jet's history, designer, or release date. Even so, its unusual remote-launch mechanism makes it a curious piece of coin-operated amusement history, distinct from standard pinball machines of its era.
