Cowboy Eight Ball
About This Machine
The Cowboy Eight Ball, manufactured by LTD do Brasil Diversões Eletrônicas Ltda in 1981, is a Brazilian-made copy of Bally's 1981 'Eight Ball Deluxe,' with all parts produced locally by LTD in Campinas, São Paulo. As one of the few solid-state electronic (SS) machines to come out of Brazil, it offers an interesting look at how popular American pinball designs were replicated for the South American market. A four-player variant, Cowboy Eight Ball 2, was also produced.
Gameplay follows the billiards theme with three flippers, three pop bumpers, and two slingshots providing fast-paced scoring opportunities. A kick-out hole, a 7-bank drop target row, a 4-in-line drop target bank, and a stand-alone drop target round out the shot layout, closely mirroring the target-rich design of the original Eight Ball Deluxe.
Little is documented about the individuals behind Cowboy Eight Ball's design, as is common for many Brazilian-made pinball copies from this era. Even so, it remains a notable piece of pinball history as a regional adaptation of a Bally classic, of interest to collectors focused on Latin American pinball manufacturing.
