Poker Plus
About This Machine
Poker Plus is a 1977 four-player, electro-mechanical pinball machine manufactured by Recel S.A. of Madrid, Spain, which produced games under the Recel export brand between 1974 and 1986 (the same design was also sold domestically under the Petaco name). Schematics and manuals for the machine are dated September and October 1977 respectively, confirming its release that year.
True to its cards/gambling theme, Poker Plus challenges players with two flippers, one pop bumper, two slingshots, five drop targets, and a standup target, along with an end-of-ball bonus that rewards strong performances. A solid-state version of the game followed in 1978, making this electro-mechanical release the earlier of the two variants.
Design and artist credits for Poker Plus are not well documented, but its card-themed presentation and dual EM/SS release strategy reflect Recel's approach to bridging older and newer pinball technology during the late 1970s.
