About This Machine

Gas Attack is a rare, re-themed pinball machine — only three units are known to exist — created by converting Capcom's 1996 'Breakshot' into a custom game for "Grossology," a hands-on educational exhibit about bodily functions that has toured the United States, Canada, and Europe. As a re-theme, it retains Breakshot's solid-state hardware but features custom dot-matrix animations and custom audio built around its Human Physiology theme, aimed at teaching children in a museum/exhibit setting.

Because it's a novelty conversion rather than a mass-produced release, Gas Attack's manufacturer of record is unknown, and it was never sold commercially. One unit on tour in Denver, Colorado, was reportedly set to free play with two balls per game, suggesting operators tailored the experience for a museum audience of children rather than typical arcade play.

With only three examples known — two of which have been documented and compared for differences — Gas Attack is a genuine rarity, notable less for advancing pinball technology and more as a creative reuse of an existing machine for an unusual educational purpose.
