Orange County Choppers
About This Machine
Orange County Choppers is a 2005 solid-state electronic video game manufactured by Incredible Technologies - despite superficially resembling a pinball machine, it is explicitly classified as 'Not A Pinball' and is included in pinball reference databases only for clarification. It was conceived by Mark Ritchie and Stephen Alexander, designed by Ritchie, with art by Alexander, mechanics by Bob Yoest, and software by Tony DeFeo, Bill Pfutzenreuter, and Randy Demsetz.
The game uses three different virtual playfields during each game, an unusual approach for a coin-operated cabinet of its time, simulating motorcycle-themed challenges rather than a physical ball-and-flipper playfield.
Designer Mark Ritchie has confirmed a total of 12 units were made. There were two different cabinet designs: the game was initially built with large 32-inch VGA monitors, which proved too costly and too heavy, so six additional units were later built with more compact 27-inch VGA monitors. This very limited production run makes Orange County Choppers a rare find for collectors interested in the boundary between pinball and video amusement machines.
