About This Machine

Chivalery, produced by Renov' Automatic - Jolux (trade name J. Martina) of Marcoussis and Paris, France, is a four-player electro-mechanical pinball machine with a European History theme. It is a conversion of Gottlieb's 1964 'Happy Clown', refitted by this French manufacturer rather than built from an original design.

Notable features include two flippers, four pop bumpers, and two kick-out holes, plus a projection roto unit mounted under the playfield. One surviving example of the game's original silkscreened artwork - sandwiched between two glass sheets, as was this manufacturer's production method - still has two of the third-player score windows uncut, with a handwritten dedication from artist Jean Amiot to the artwork's original owner (though Amiot himself no longer recalls the date).

Limited information survives about Chivalery's designer credits or exact production run, but its identity as a French conversion of a well-known American Gottlieb title, paired with a distinctive European History theme, makes it a curious footnote in EM pinball history.
