About This Machine

Automatic Pool, manufactured by Chicago Coin Machine Manufacturing Company in November 1955, is a coin-operated electric pool (cue) game rather than a pinball machine - it is classified as 'Not A Pinball' in industry records. According to a contemporary account, it was the first electric pool game in the industry; a December 3, 1955 article in The Billboard reported that the game had been shipped to distributors that week.

The cabinet features a hinged playfield with front play, and the coin chute is located on the front coin door - a convenient arrangement for operators. A table light was available at additional cost for players who wanted better visibility of the table.

Little additional information about Automatic Pool survives today, but its billiards theme and its place as an early electric pool game make it a notable curiosity from Chicago Coin's mid-1950s lineup, distinct from the flipper pinball machines the company is better known for.
