About This Machine

The Pals pinball machine, produced by V. P. Distributing Company in 1944, is a wartime conversion of Bally's 1940 'Mascot.' Like other games in this V.P. Distributing series, it reused an earlier flipperless cabinet during a period when wartime material shortages limited new machine production.

As a flipperless, electro-mechanical machine, Pals relied on plunger shots and gravity to route the ball toward scoring targets rather than on flipper control. Its use of electro-mechanical mechanisms to track scoring was typical of the period, even if specific rule details have not survived.

Pals holds interest today mainly as an example of how manufacturers kept games in circulation through cabinet conversions during World War II. Its original designer and specific production run remain undocumented, leaving much for collectors and historians to uncover.
