Super Star Baseball
About This Machine
Super Star Baseball, manufactured by Williams in February 1954 as model number 101, continues the company's run of baseball-themed EM novelty machines that began in the early 1950s. It's closely related to two other 1954 Williams releases, Special Deluxe Baseball and Super Pennant Baseball, sharing much of its design lineage with them.
One of the standout aspects of Super Star Baseball is its super-sized backbox featuring score reel scoring, a more advanced display than the dial-based scoring of earlier EM games. Players can choose between straightforward novelty play or a novelty-plus-Double-Match feature, in which matching a scored number to a lit star increases their chances of earning replays. The backbox animation depicts men running the bases, while playfield lights indicate which bases are occupied.
Little is documented about the specific designer of Super Star Baseball, but its blend of gameplay features and baseball theming make it a sought-after find among collectors of 1950s EM pinball. Its single-entry coin chute accepts nickels, dimes, and quarters, and a replay window is visible in the lower right corner of the backglass in period advertising.
