Pennant Baseball
About This Machine
Pennant Baseball, manufactured by Williams in July 1953, is model number 94 in Williams' EM baseball lineup, sharing much of its "bat game" mechanical backbox animation with its stablemate Star Baseball, released the same year.
Pennant Baseball offers a novelty or replay-based Double Match feature: match numbers 0-9 light pennants in the backglass to score a replay, and if a pennant matches the score while the star above it is also lit, the player is awarded 10 replays. The short backbox houses this scoring display, while the playfield features lights representing men running the bases, adding an engaging visual element to gameplay.
The machine's design and artwork reflect its baseball theme, continuing a lineage of sports-themed EM machines from Williams in the early 1950s. The single-entry coin chute accepts nickels, dimes, and quarters, reflecting the flexible pricing common to the era. This 1953 example offers a glimpse into the development of Williams' novelty and match-play mechanics that would continue to evolve throughout the decade.
