About This Machine

Sky Star, manufactured by Europlay of Italy in 1974, is a parachuting/skydiving-themed electro-mechanical Add-A-Ball machine, and notably a copy of Gottlieb's own 1974 'Sky Dive' -- a practice not uncommon among some European manufacturers of the era who reproduced successful American designs for their home market.

Gameplay on Sky Star features two flippers, three pop bumpers, two slingshots, six standup targets, and a 7-bank drop target, housed in a wedge-head cabinet. As an Add-A-Ball game, players earn additional balls rather than free games for good performance, reflecting the regulatory environment for pinball in parts of Europe at the time.

Little independent information exists about Sky Star's specific design or artwork beyond its relationship to Gottlieb's original. As a close copy of an established American design, it offers an interesting case study in how popular pinball concepts circulated internationally during the 1970s.
