Cine Star
About This Machine
The Cine Star is a movie-star-themed electro-mechanical Add-A-Ball machine from Zaccaria of Bologna, Italy, with artwork credited to Lorenzo Rimondini. Produced sometime during Zaccaria's 1974-1987 run (the exact year is not documented), it represents the kind of feature-rich single-player EM game that Italian manufacturers like Zaccaria were known for.
The machine offers two flippers, two pop bumpers, two slingshots, 13 standup targets, and a single spinning target. An extra ball is awarded for reaching certain point thresholds, for hitting all standup targets, or for striking the spinning target at high speed after clearing the standups -- hitting it too slowly awards only points. An end-of-ball bonus and distinctive 'biri-biri' sound effects and knocker round out the ruleset, with a maximum displayed score of 9,999,990 points.
An unused clear window near the director's-chair artwork on the backglass hints that a replay unit may have originally been planned, though surviving units show no such unit installed. A backbox adjustment plug allowed operators to switch the game between Add-a-Ball and straight novelty play, giving Cine Star some flexibility for different markets.
