About This Machine

Big Eagle, credited to Renov' Automatic - Jolux (trade name J. Martina) of Marcoussis and Paris, France, is a 1968 electro-mechanical pinball machine with a military aircraft theme and artwork by Jean Amiot, built for up to 4 players. It is a conversion of Gottlieb's 1964 machine 'Ship-Mates,' reusing the large combination beehive ball-shooter and lockdown bar found in Gottlieb games of that era, along with the lowered-front cabinet style typical of those machines.

The machine's gameplay features two flippers, three pop bumpers, four kick-out holes, and two horseshoe lanes, providing an engaging challenge for players. The manufacturer advertised this line as a fast, complete refurbishment service, refinishing original playfields and repainting cabinets - though it is not confirmed whether the surviving cabinets shown carry artwork produced specifically for this conversion.

As a rebranded and re-themed adaptation of an American Gottlieb design, Big Eagle is a distinctive example of the French conversion trade of the late 1960s, offering an interesting case study for collectors interested in how European operators repurposed existing machines with new themes.
