El Viti
About This Machine
El Viti is an electro-mechanical pinball conversion kit made for Gottlieb's 1967 machines 'Harmony' and 'Troubadour,' adapted with a Spanish bullfighting theme - on the backglass, the Spanish word "TOROS" ("bulls") replaces the original word "MUSIC." The manufacturer of the kit is unknown. The machine uses 5-digit score-reel scoring, typical of late-1960s electro-mechanical Gottlieb designs.
The backglass features a vivid Spanish bullfighting poster advertising a triple bill of matadors - Paco Camino ("El Viti" is the machine's namesake, referring to matador Santiago Martín Sánchez) and El Cordobés (Manuel Benítez Pérez) - for an event at the Plaza de Toros Monumental, Barcelona's historic bullring built in 1915. That venue hosted bullfights until September 2011, shortly before a Catalan law banned the practice in 2012, ending 600 years of bullfighting history in the region; it is now used for sporting, musical, and circus events.
As a conversion kit rather than an original cabinet, El Viti's gameplay would largely mirror its Gottlieb source machines, dressed in striking bullfighting-themed artwork that makes it a distinctive piece for collectors interested in Spanish pinball history.
