About This Machine

The Sultan is a solid state electronic (SS) pinball machine from Taito do Brasil, a division of the Japanese manufacturer Taito. Its exact release year is not documented. Notably, the Sultan uses the same design as Gottlieb's 1978 'Sinbad,' a common practice for the era's licensed and rebadged releases.

The machine features four flippers, two pop bumpers, and an array of targets including star rollovers, standup targets, 3-bank and 4-bank drop targets, and a spinning target, giving players a variety of shots to master. A mini-post screw is positioned between the lower flippers. The single drop target and the pair of drop targets share one reset coil, while the triplet of drop targets is reset by a separate coil.

Little documentation exists about the Sultan's specific theme or artistic direction. One known example of the game has been modified, reportedly by an operator, with two flippers removed and two slingshots installed using plastics from Williams' 1978 'Flash.' Because of its limited documentation and Brazilian production, the Sultan remains a lesser-known machine of interest to collectors researching Taito do Brasil's output.
