KISS
About This Machine
KISS, produced by L & V Mambelli of Cesena, Italy, is a solid-state (SS) conversion believed to be built from Gottlieb's 1972 electro-mechanical game 'Space Orbit.' If so, the playfield was entirely replaced with new artwork closely resembling Bally's official KISS pinball machine, though with only three pop bumpers instead of four and stationary targets substituted for drop targets.
Gameplay includes two flippers, three pop bumpers, two slingshots, 12 star rollovers, eight drop targets, and two spinning targets, offering a busy, feature-rich layout typical of late-1970s pinball design.
Rather than an original or pioneering SS release, KISS appears to be an unofficial Italian rework that borrowed the licensed KISS branding and visual style from Bally's own machine, repackaged onto older EM-derived hardware. This kind of unlicensed conversion was not uncommon in the Italian market of the era, and it makes KISS an interesting curiosity for collectors of bootleg and reworked pinball machines.
