About This Machine

The Challenger III is one of five conversion kits produced by Professional Pinball of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, in 1981. This solid-state electronic (SS) machine is a conversion of Bally's 1978 'Bobby Orr Power Play.' As with the other Challenger kits, the conversion included a new backglass, playfield overlay, and playfield light shields, giving the underlying hardware a new, generic identity distinct from Bobby Orr Power Play's ice-hockey theme and licensing.

Gameplay retains the core mechanics of the original Bally machine, but with the hockey theme and branding stripped away in favor of Professional Pinball's own presentation.

No further information on the Challenger III's specific art or design has been documented. Its theme remains unspecified in available records, but as one of five documented Bally conversions produced by Professional Pinball in the early 1980s, the Challenger III holds a niche place in the history of pinball repackaging.
