Star-Flite
About This Machine
The Star-Flite, manufactured by Segasa d.b.a. Sonic of Spain in 1975 (model 445-1), is an electro-mechanical (EM) single-player add-a-ball machine with an aircraft/aviation theme. The backglass and playfield apron indicate it was manufactured by Segasa under license from Williams Electronics, and it is a version of Williams' 1974 two-player 'Super-Flite' and four-player 'Strato-Flite.'
The machine features 13 standup targets, three pop bumpers, two slingshots, a kick-out hole, and upper and lower ball return gates. Of its two flippers, only one is positioned in a flipper lane. The game awards an end-of-ball bonus and uses a 7-digit score display where the final two digits are fixed at '00.'
Star-Flite's aviation theme and artwork offer a glimpse into 1970s EM pinball design as adapted for the European market. No specific information is available on the artist responsible for the machine's visuals, but as a licensed Segasa adaptation of a Williams design, it remains an interesting example of cross-border pinball manufacturing in the 1970s.
