About This Machine
This early Baseball pinball machine from Genco Manufacturing Company is a little-documented piece of pinball history; its exact year of manufacture is unknown, though it is known to be related to Genco's later rolldown game "Play Ball" (1942), referenced in a 1943 Billboard classified ad comparing the two. As an electro-mechanical rolldown game, it belongs to an early style of pinball play distinct from later flipper-based designs.
Gameplay-wise, Baseball features 13 gobble holes, a hallmark of many early rolldown-style pinball machines, in which the ball is captured in one of several holes to register a score. The backglass measures 24 inches square, showcasing the baseball theme and artwork of the period.
Little is known about the machine's designer or specific gameplay rules beyond its rolldown mechanics, but its rarity and uncertain age make it a fascinating artifact for pinball historians and collectors interested in the early days of baseball-themed pinball.
