Shield
About This Machine
The Shield, manufactured by Barni, S.A. of Barcelona, Spain in 1985, is a rare machine among pinball enthusiasts. It is a solid-state electronic (SS) pinball machine from a European manufacturer, produced during the mature years of the SS era.
The Shield's gameplay features a futuristic, alien-themed design, possibly inspired by the American TV series "V," which aired 1984-1985 and was preceded by a 1983 TV movie of the same name. The two flippers and two pop bumpers provide the foundation for the game. Factory-installed illumination included two fluorescent tubes in the backbox.
Little is known about the designer behind the Shield, adding to its enigmatic character. As one of the lesser-known pinball machines from this era, the Shield presents an interesting opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts to explore a piece of Spanish pinball history.
