About This Machine

Skil Luck is a rare and enigmatic Pure Mechanical (PM) tabletop/counter pinball machine with a blackjack gambling theme. Measuring just 19 1/2 inches by 11 1/2 inches and standing 7 inches high at the back and 5 inches at the front, this diminutive game was clearly designed for placement on a countertop rather than as a standalone cabinet.

The machine's manufacturer and designer are unknown, and its date of manufacture is only estimated to the early 1930s. Its blackjack theme is reflected in its glass top and polished metal face, giving it a touch of sophistication uncommon in humble tabletop games of the period. Collectors have noted that its playfield trim resembles that of A.B.T.'s 1933 'Rol-Let,' suggesting a possible design lineage or shared supplier.

Because so little documentation survives - the example known to researchers is missing its ball pull arm and part of its coin mechanism - much about how Skil Luck was actually played remains uncertain. Even so, as one of the few known examples of a Pure Mechanical machine built around a casino theme, it holds real interest for collectors and historians tracing the early intersection of gambling themes and mechanical amusement games.
