Rocket Shot
About This Machine
The Lindstrom Tool and Toy Company's Rocket Shot (1934) is an early bagatelle-style pure mechanical game, produced in Bridgeport, Connecticut. It's known to have existed in at least four documented variations — differing in shape, size, and shooter placement, with one version even featuring a checkers game on its reverse side.
Gameplay on Rocket Shot follows the bagatelle tradition: players launch the ball into play and let gravity and the machine's fixed pins determine where it lands, without ramps, targets, or any of the complex features found in later pinball machines. This straightforward design was typical of the many small tabletop bagatelle games manufacturers produced during the early 1930s, alongside contemporaries like D. Gottlieb & Company and Bally Manufacturing, both already established by this time.
Little is documented about Rocket Shot's designer or any specific theme. Its sturdy metal-and-Masonite construction and multiple production variants make it an interesting example for collectors of early bagatelle and pinball history.
