Score Pool
About This Machine
Score Pool, manufactured by Williams in May 1956, is not a pinball machine but an electro-mechanical cue game with a billiards theme, model number 153. For two dimes, starting the game releases 10 balls into a front tray; using real cue sticks, players alternate taking bank shots into holes of differing point values to build their score.
Before each shot, players manually press a playfield button to switch turns in the backbox. The game ends once all 10 balls have been sunk. The cabinet is substantial: 35 3/4 inches wide by 65 inches long (including the ball drop), with a 32 1/2-inch-high playing table and a 45 1/2-inch-tall backbox.
As a cue-and-billiards novelty rather than a traditional pinball, Score Pool represents an unusual branch of Williams' electro-mechanical output from the mid-1950s, combining real cue-stick play with arcade-style scoring.
