About This Machine

Alice in Wonderland, designed by Harry Mabs and manufactured by D. Gottlieb & Company in August 1948, is a charming early entry in the flipper era of pinball. As one of the so-called 'Fairy Tale' games Gottlieb produced during 1947-1948, it arrived less than a year after flippers were first introduced to the game, and it carried a confirmed production run of 1,000 units.

The machine boasts six flippers, still a novelty at the time of its release, allowing players to control the ball with far greater precision than the flipperless games that preceded it. Ten passive bumpers and two kick-out holes round out the playfield, giving the ball plenty of places to score as it works its way down toward the flippers.

The artwork, by Gottlieb's renowned artist Roy Parker, brings the whimsical theme to life with characters from Lewis Carroll's beloved 1865 classic, written under his famous pseudonym by Charles Lutwidge Dodgson. Its blend of storybook charm and pioneering flipper gameplay makes Alice in Wonderland a sought-after piece among collectors of early Gottlieb games.
