The Simpsons Pinball Party
About This Machine
The Simpsons Pinball Party, released February 14, 2003 by Stern Pinball, is a licensed comic/cartoon-themed pinball machine built on the Sega/Stern Whitestar platform. It was designed by Keith P. Johnson and Joe Balcer, with artwork by Kevin O'Connor and Margaret Hudson, and features 100% custom-recorded speech from Dan Castellaneta, Nancy Cartwright, and Hank Azaria. Cabinet and backglass art was produced by Matt Groening's team.
Gameplay-wise, The Simpsons Pinball Party offers an array of engaging features, including five flippers, three drop targets, and multiball modes that can put up to five balls in play at once. An upper mini-playfield adds an extra layer of strategy and challenge, while a captive ball and a couch feature (a 3-ball lock on the upper playfield) provide unique shots. Standout toys include a moving, lit Homer head on the playfield, figures of Itchy & Scratchy, Comic Book Guy, and Bart, plus a 3-color digital dot matrix display standing in for the family's television. The bumper caps are styled as nuclear cooling towers, and the game uses a combined auto-plunger/manual-plunger arrangement.
The machine captures the humor and colorful world of the animated series, integrating familiar Simpsons characters and locations into the design. Weighing about 260 lbs with legs, it remains a fan-favorite among pinball enthusiasts for its faithful adaptation of the show.
