300
About This Machine
300, made by Maquinas Recreativas Sociedad Anonima (Maresa) of Madrid, Spain, is a single-player electro-mechanical pinball machine and a copy of the four-player Gottlieb machine '"300"' from 1975; both are replay games. It shares the same playfield layout and cabinet art as Maresa's own machine 'Pin,' though the backglass art differs; the extent of other differences between the two isn't documented. As with other Spanish machines of the era, whether this was a licensed copy or an unlicensed reproduction of the Gottlieb original is unknown, given restrictions at the time on importing American pinball machines into Spain.
True to its bowling theme, the machine features mechanical backbox animation with bowling balls kicking into view, plus a transparent playfield surface. Gameplay includes two flippers, two pop bumpers, two slingshots, four standup targets, two kick-out holes, a spinning target, and parallel lanes of serial rollovers on the right side of the playfield, along with a right outlane ball-return gate and an end-of-ball bonus. The last two digits of the score are dummy zeroes, a common scoring-reel convention of the period.
300 stands as one of several Spanish EM replicas of well-known Gottlieb machines, offering collectors a chance to compare Maresa's interpretation against the American original.
