2002
About This Machine
2002 is a single-player electro-mechanical pinball machine from Maquinas Recreativas Sociedad Anonima (trading as Maresa) of Madrid, Spain, and notably a replica of Gottlieb's 1971 machine '2001.' Due to restrictions on importing American pinball machines into Spain at the time, Maresa built its own version rather than importing the Gottlieb original; whether this was a licensed copy or an unlicensed reproduction isn't documented.
The playfield includes two flippers, two pop bumpers, four slingshots (with two slingshot kickers in the upper playfield), two 10-bank drop-target banks, five kick-out holes, and four standup targets, a dense, feature-rich layout reflecting its Gottlieb origins.
Production year and unit numbers for 2002 aren't documented, but as one of several Spanish replicas of well-known American machines from this period, it offers an interesting look at how import restrictions shaped the country's early pinball manufacturing.
