Circus
About This Machine
Circus is a single-player electro-mechanical pinball machine made by Cedes S.A. of Barcelona, Spain; its production year isn't documented. Its playfield and lower cabinet are a copy of Gottlieb's 1962 two-player machine 'Fashion Show,' following the common practice among smaller manufacturers of building on established American designs.
True to its carnival theme, Circus features colorful playfield art depicting acrobats and clowns. Gameplay includes two flippers, three pop bumpers, two passive bumpers, two slingshots, two rollover buttons, and a standup target, along with an advancing-value rotating target disc that rewards precision shooting. The maximum displayed score is capped at 1,999 points, typical of EM scoring reels of the period.
The cabinet features a wedge-head backbox and an oversized combination ball shooter and lockdown bar. While little is known about Cedes S.A. itself, Circus offers a glimpse into how Spanish manufacturers adapted well-known American playfield designs for their domestic market.
